I’ve always wanted to have skin that didn’t hurt.

I grew up in South Florida loving the humidity but hating all the sunburns. I spent a good portion of my childhood swimming. The beach at night has always held a special place in my heart. Something about being so close to the powerful ocean makes me feel small, making my problems feel small. Being near the shore always lifts my mood. I became interested in the occult as a teenager and got really into kitchen witchcraft as an uninsured college graduate. I didn't need antibiotics for chronic sinus issues if I prevented infections with plenty of eucalyptus steam, apple cider vinegar and horseradish root. I can often be found lighting candles, watching the waves or mixing up a variety potions during different phases of the moon.

I had allergies to seemingly everything around me as a kid, but doctors always assumed that it was all in my head. I begged specialists to test me for food allergies only to be told that the tests would be irrelevant. I watched medical tv shows constantly and religiously researched all my symptoms online in search of causes. Eventually I fled to San Francisco for more reliable health care. The first few doctors I saw promptly diagnosed me with Celiac’s disease, a rare form of diabetes(versus the Type 2 doctors previously thought I had), Sjogren's syndrome and the hyper-mobility type of Elhers-Danlos syndrome. There were so many things that I had just accepted as facts about my body, that turned out to be symptoms of real, explainable causes.

I quickly maneuvered to protect my fragile skin as much as possible. I learned about Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and how it strips your skin of it’s natural barrier. I stopped using products containing this detergent and everything from my gums to my scalp calmed down for the first time in my life. My lips blistered after a particularly unfortunate makeover and I swore off all makeup except lip balm. After my favorite one got discontinued, I started making my own. I came up with a simple formula that I love and my lips stopped randomly breaking out. I was hooked.

After a few years of only using my own lip balms, I realized that I missed the fun colors and styles that makeup can provide. Sure, there were beauty companies that catered to those of us that need to be extra careful with our skin, but they seemed to produce bland products that lacked the expressive styles that I craved. I figure what better way to find what I needed than by experimenting! This led me to create my vibrant Sea Spell formulas.

I don’t want anyone to miss out on wearing the latest trends just because they need to pamper their bodies. I’ve created products that don't irritate your skin and actually make it feel better and than it did before.
